1. Farmleigh House

Although we’ve heard plenty of good things about all of the B&Bs in Donegal Town in this guide, Farmleigh House was recommended to us time and time again.

This beautiful house is in a great residential location just on the edge of Donegal Town and it’s within walking distance of the town centre (a nice 800m stroll0.

There are double rooms and a family room available in this quaint B&B, with free Wi-Fi, a television and kettle for guests to freely use. 

The gorgeous home has a shared lounge and terrace for relaxing with a book or you can enjoy the surrounding garden which is beautifully kept. This is arguably the best B&B Donegal Town has to offer, in our opinion. 

2. Ros Dún House

Ros Dun House is a beautifully refurnished B&B in Donegal Town. It’s located just a short two-minute walk from the town centre, so you can easily enjoy the restaurants, bars and boutique shops on foot.

The house has a variety of different sized rooms available such as double rooms and twin rooms with some offering garden views.

There’s a shared dining and lounge area where the complimentary breakfast is served each morning.

3. The Gateway Lodge

The Gateway Lodge could go toe-to-toe with the best hotels in Donegal Town. This is a large guesthouse a short stroll from Donegal Castle. It’s close to the town, but far enough away that you’re away from the hustle and bustle.

The Lodge boasts 26 refurbished en-suite bedrooms offering super king beds and all of the facilities you’ll need for a comfortable break.

The lodge also features a restaurant, Blas, which offers a complimentary breakfast to guests.

4. The Bridges B&B

This lovely town house is one of the most popular B&Bs in Donegal Town. They offer a number of comfortable double rooms, some with private bathrooms attached.

It’s a perfect option for couples looking to stay within five minutes of all the main attractions of the town centre. 

There’s free Wi-Fi throughout the house and a complimentary continental and vegetarian breakfast served up each morning. If the sun is shining, you can sit outside in the garden and enjoy the view of the river and stone bridges. 

5. Riverside House

if you’re looking for a bed and breakfast in Donegal Town that’s a stone’s throw from the castle and many of the town’s best restaurants, look no further than this place.

Located right on the edge of the River Eske in town, this popular B&B is just 100m from Donegal Castle.

The property has a variety of modern single and double rooms, most with an ensuite bathroom, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. They also have free Wi-Fi throughout the house. 

The location is the real highlight of this quaint B&B, with a local traditional Irish pub right next door and plenty of shops just across the street. It’s perfect for those looking to enjoy the town on foot. 

The best B&Bs near Donegal Town

For something a little outside of the bustle of the town centre, you can opt to stay in one of these B&Bs just a short drive away.

They might not be within walking distance, but they have excellent reviews and are a great alternative for a more secluded stay.

1. The Gap Lodge

The Gap Lodge is just a short 10km drive outside of Donegal town near the Barnesmore Gap Natural Heritage Area.

The property has been run by the same owners for many years, and reviews rave about the welcome given. You can relax in their comfortable lounge or outside in their beautiful garden while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. 

The pretty B&B has spacious triple and twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Each morning, you can enjoy a home-cooked breakfast full of local produce, catering to any dietary requirements that you might have.

2. Heeney’s Lodge

Halfway between Donegal town and Lough Eske, Heeney’s Lodge is a traditional country B&B that’s still within a short drive from town.

The welcoming property has a garden, free Wi-Fi throughout the lodge and a complimentary Irish breakfast served daily by the friendly hosts. 

They have a range of spacious rooms from doubles up to family rooms which sleep four people. They all have ensuite bathrooms, free toiletries, heating and a hairdryer.

3. Donamar House

Donamar House is the ideal country escape just a short distance from Donegal town. The property offers stunning views over Lough Eske and the Blue Stack Mountains and is just a five-minute drive from these natural landmarks, as well as from the town centre.

The gorgeous house has twin, double and triple rooms, with some offering lake views and you can enjoy the continental cooked breakfast each morning in the shared dining room.

The friendly hosts can provide an array of information on things to do in the area and they also offer bike rental from the house so you can explore on your own. 

4. Milltown House

If you’re looking for more of a secluded seaside escape, Milltown House is the perfect B&B just outside of Donegal town. It’s located on the Sligo Road south of the centre, just in from the coastline.

This beautifully modern guesthouse has a nice garden for guests to sit and relax in or you can cosy up inside in the communal lounge on cooler days. 

They offer affordable double and single rooms and special rates for larger groups. It’s especially good for families who are after a quiet getaway within reach of town, with babysitting services, cots and highchairs available for guests.
