9 Killarney Bed And Breakfasts I Know You’ll Love

9 Killarney Bed And Breakfasts I Know You’ll Love

I’ve been recommending the same few B&Bs in Killarney for many years now and I’ve yet to hear anything but rave reviews.

As is the case with my Killarney hotels guide, I recommend B&Bs based on:

  1. Central location: Central to Killarney Town and close to restaurants and pubs
  2. Excellent feedback: Each of the below Killarney bed and breakfasts have consistently great reviews
  3. Quality of accommodation: Each B&B boasts clean rooms and warm and friendly service

My go-to B&Bs in Killarney Town

Each of the below Killarney bed and breakfasts makes a great base to explore the Ring of Kerry and beyond from. I’m confident you’ll enjoy any of the B&Bs below!

Note: if you book a stay through one of the links below we may make a commission that helps us keep this site going. You won’t pay extra, but we really do appreciate it.

1. Dan Linehans Bar and B&B

So, the reason Dan Linehan’s tops this guide is down to both feedback and location. The rooms here won’t win any design awards, but they’re clean, comfy and have everything you need.

The location is exceptional – Linehan’s is located on College Street in the heart of the town centre. You’ll find some of Killarney’s best restaurants, like Cronin’s, less than a minute walk.

The location also means some of the finest pubs in Killarney, like Jimmy Brien’s, are only a 2-minute stroll away. I know many people that have stayed here and the feedback has been nothing but excellent.

If you’re after luxury, you won’t find it here – but if you’re looking for Killarney bed and breakfasts that do service, cleanliness, comfort and location incredibly well, look no further.

2. Old Weir Lodge

Tucked away in mature, finely manicured gardens on the Muckross Road, Old Weir Lodge is one of many family run B&Bs in Killarney.

A handy 13-minute stroll into the centre of Killarney Town, Old Weir Lodge is arguably the blueprint for what every guesthouse should aspire to be.

The interior is cosy, rustic and feels homely, despite being one of the larger B&Bs in Killarney. The rooms are large, bright and spacious and boast every modern convenience you could want.

There are two lounge rooms to relax in after a day on the road and Killarney National Park is less than a 10-minute stroll.

3. Castle Lodge

Another of the Killarney bed and breakfasts that calls the Muckross Road ‘home’ is the brilliant Castle Lodge.

A handy 8-minute stroll into the centre of town, Castle Lodge has been run by the O’Shea Family for over 20 years, and they’ve racked up rave reviews during the time.

There are 24 bedrooms here, ranging from singles to triples and each looks more like a hotel room than a traditional-style B&B room.

Breakfast-wise, it’s home made and cooked to order! When you’ve fuelled up for the day, head to nearby Torc Waterfall – it’s only an 8-minute drive!

4. Herbert House

Herbert House

Herbert House is one of a small number of luxury B&Bs in Killarney and it’s arguably the best. Located on the Muckross Road, there’s an awful lot to like about this place.

This 4-star guesthouse boasts a number of boutique rooms that would rival many hotels. Guests can expect large, bright and airy rooms with every modern comfort.

If you fancy staying in, there’s a large lounge and a sunny conservatory that overlooks the garden. If you want to hit the town, you’re a 15-minute stroll away.

Location wise, the Herbert House is a 5-minute drive from Muckross House and the same from the car park leading to the magnificent Muckross Abbey.

5. Ivy Cottage B&B

One of the more picture-perfect Killarney bed and breakfasts can be found a 17-minute walk from the town centre on the Port Road.

The cottage was built around 1849 and, while the exterior has retained much of its charm and character, the interior has all the modern comforts you could need.

There are a number of rooms at Ivy Cottage that can be rented individually or, if you’re visiting Killarney with a group, it can be rented in its entirety.

Guests can expect a hearty breakfast, comfy rooms and easy access to many of the Killarney National Park walks (it’s right over the road, after all!).

6. Earls Court House

So, I’ve always had it in my head that Earls Court House was a B&B, but it turns out it’s a 4-star hotel (my mistake!).

Many visitors to Ireland following our Irish Road Trip itineraries have made Earls Court their base while exploring Kerry, with many saying that its unique rooms were some of their favourites while visiting Ireland.

It’s at Earls Court House that old-world elegance and modern comfort collide to create a very memorable base to tackle the various things to do in Killarney from.

There are a number of room options here, including one with a four poster suite and a jacuzzi bath! In the morning, an award-winning breakfast awaits!

7. Windway House

You’ll find Windway House a 10-minute walk into the centre of town, near the magnificent St. Mary’s Cathedral.

My favourite thing about Windway House is that, despite being a short-ramble from the centre, it feels a world away from the hustle and bustle, mainly thanks to its location on a quiet, tree-lined avenue.

Although the photos above don’t do it justice, the rooms are comfortable, clean and have every modern convenience you’ll need.

Located just off the N72, Windway House is a handy 20-minute spin from the Gap of Dunloe and many of the areas top attractions.

8. Killaran House

The next of our Killarney B&Bs is the very popular Killaran House, located on the Park Road, a 10-minute walk from the centre of town.

With just 8 rooms, this is one of the smaller Killarney bed and breakfasts in this guide, but Killaran House packs a punch much bigger than its size!

Each of the rooms are bright, have been recently refurbed and boast all of the conveniences that you’d get from a hotel, but at guesthouse prices!

There’s a beaut of a brekfast menu here, with everything from creamy porridges (with Bailey’s Irish cream) to pancakes, veggie options and full Irish brekkies!

9. The Birches

The Birches

The last of our Killarney B&Bs is the newest addition to the guide and it was one I debated adding for a while.

I’m always wary about recommending anywhere unless I have first-hand experience, but 3 different family members have stayed here now and the reviews have been glowing.

You’ll find the Birches on the Countess Road. Location-wise, this’ll be a winner for most as it’s only a 5-minute walk into the centre of town.

There are family, double and twin rooms here and each is large, comfy and feel more like a hotel than guesthouse. The family members that stayed here raved about the standard of the propety and how close it was to town!

What to do while you’re in Killarney

Although the go-to for many visiting the area is the Ring of Kerry drive, there are endless things to do in Killarney.

If you need an itinerary, I have a tried-and-tested 1-day Ring of Kerry itinerary that is followed by thousands of people each year.

If you want to stay in/near the town, the likes of Torc Mountain, Ladies View and Tomies Wood are all great options!
