1. Michie Sushi

Michie Sushi is one of the most popular family-run sushi bars in Dublin, with three locations scattered across the county (Sandyford, Ranelagh and Dun Laoghaire).

The business started as a takeaway in Ranelagh in 2007 but, due to it’s huge popularity, it quickly expanded.

In their first year in business they won the McKenna’s coveted ‘Best Sushi in Ireland’, so they must be doing something right!

They specialise in delicious, hand-rolled sushi made to order, but they do hot dishes like Ramen, too. This is regarded as one of the best sushi restaurants in Dublin by many for good reason.

2. Musashi Noodle & Sushi Bar Dublin

Musashi Noodle & Sushi Bar is another stunner! And, as they’ve 6 locations (IFSC, Sandyford, Blanchardstown, Capel St., Hogan Place and Parnell St.), you’re rarely far from one.

The sushi here is made to order (not always a given!) and, according to their website, is ‘never leftover from the previous hour’. 

On the menu, you’ll find everything from Tunado Roll and Vegetarian Futomaki to Sushi Selection Platters and all the usual sushi favourites.

3. Yamamori

Yamamori is a chain of Japenese restaurants that produce arguably the best sushi in Dublin City Centre (although there’s hot competition!).

It’s definitely the longest-running, anyway! When Yamamori opened back in 1995, it’s was the second Japanese restaurant to arrive in Ireland.

Since then, it’s gone on to become the oldest of the many sushi restaurants in Dublin and in Ireland as a whole (the first Japanese restaurant closed a number of years ago).

Yamamori has a number of locations in Dublin and the food here has racked up hundreds of excellent reviews online.

4. Tippenyaki Restaurant

Next up is one of the cooler places for sushi Dublin has to offer – the incredible Tippenyaki Restaurant in Rathmines.

The name of this restaurant translates to ‘grilled iron plate’ and, while the art of teppanyaki is relatively new to Dublin, this place draws a crowd.

The food is prepared in front of you and you can expect to find a straight forward menu with both fresh sushi and fish and meat dishes cooked on the teppanyaki grill.

This is, in my opinion, some of the best sushi in Dublin. I really liked the selection of norimaki that includes your basic fair like maki, salmon, prawn, and avocado.

5. Takara Ramen & Deli Sushi Bar

You’ll find Takara Ramen & Deli Sushi Bar on Upper Abbey Street, a stone’s throw from many of the best restaurants in Dublin.

However, although there’s stiff competition nearby, Takara holds its own. Dishes are masterfully created by an expert chef using locally sourced beef, chicken and dish.

On the menu here, you’ll find everything from Home made Grilled Pork Gyoze with Gyoze Sauce and Tuna Roll to Tonkotsu Original Ramen and more.

Other very popular sushi restaurants in Dublin

Below, you’ll find everywhere from Zakura Izakaya and Okayu to some often-overlooked sushi takeaways in Dublin.

1. Zakura Izakaya

Situated at the hear of the action on Upper Baggot Street, Zakura Izakaya is another spot reputed to do some of the best sushi in Dublin (4.5 out of 1,148 Google reviews at the time of typing).

There’s a lunch, dinner and takeaway menu on offer here, with a mix of all the usual sushi favourites along with tempura, ramen, ebi gyoza and more.

The dinner menu is extensive, and fairly priced, too, with sushi rolls ranging from €3.60 to around €14.95, depending on size. If you’re looking for sushi places in Dublin City, give Zakura a try!

2. Okayu

Situated inside a small white shop on Dublin’s North Strand Road, Okayu features an incredible selection of traditional Japanese dishes.

The Donburi they serve here is out of this world, as well as the classic Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki.

Although this is a take-out joint, there is a small counter where you can have your meal (just keep in mind that it can be tricky to nab a seat).

3. Eatokyo Noodles and Sushi Bar

Located close to the Ha’penny Bridge with views of River Liffey, Eatokyo Noodles and Sushi Bar is one of the finest traditional sushi restaurants in Dublin in this guide.

From noodle dishes and delicious sushi to striploin steak and soup with pork, there’s a huge number of items to choose from.

I recommend ordering the Yasai Yaki Saba or trying the Chicken Katsu Curry. An extensive list of traditional Japanese wine and beer can be also found on the menu.

4. Umi sushi & bento

Umi sushi & bento is a popular sushi takeaway in Dublin that offers a wide range of traditional dishes. All of the food here is cooked to order and the ingredients they use are always fresh and of the highest quality.

Order classics like salmon sashimi and maguro tuna or try something different like salmon cream cheese with avocado and chicken gyoza. 

They have a lot of combo box options, which means you can try many different foods at once. A handy place to drop into for lunch.

5. J2 Sushi & Grill

J2 Sushi & Grill is one of the more popular spots for sushi Dublin has to offer and you’ll find it in North Wall Quay, The CHQ Building, Jervis Shopping Centre and St. Stephen’s Green.

All of the fish here is sourced from Wright’s of Marino and then wood-smoked by the chefs at J2. The meat is also sourced from the excellent F.X. Buckley’s (they do the best steak in Dublin).

Menu wise, there’s nothing surprising here, with all of the old-reliables on offer, along with some decent ‘Party Offers’.
