You And 3 Mates Can Rent A Castle In Galway For A Friday In July For Just €73 P/P

If you’ve ever had a nosey in the where to stay section of this site, you’ll know that we’re fond of unique accommodation.

The funkier and the more unusual the better.

Now, we’ve featured a fair few castle hotels and castle Airbnbs over the years, but NONE have been as friendly on the pocket as this place.

A mighty little castle in Galway where a Friday night in July will set you back as little as €73 per person (based on a group of 4).

Welcome to Cahercastle

An old school door

Welcome to the 600-year-old Cahercastle in County Galway (it’s mad to think that this place has been standing since way back in the late 1400s!)

Cahercastle has been finely restored to its original state by host Peter, using traditional materials along with cutting edge tech.

His efforts have gone down a treat – the castle has racked up 1,000+ 4 to 5-star reviews on Airbnb and not long ago it was crowned the most visited Airbnb in Europe.

What you can expect if you stay here

A roaring fire

Peter used local stone, limestone, and oak beams during the restoration, to give Cahercastle the most traditional feel possible.

Visitors have access to the master bedroom (there’s access to the turret, also), a living room (with a gorgeous open fire), dining room, and two guest bedrooms.

While the castle has an old-school feel and look to it, it also has a heap of modern conveniences, like:

  • Solar water heating.
  • Wifi
  • Washing machine
  • Heating
  • Dining facilities for cooking your own meals
  • A coffee maker
  • Microwave, fridge, stove, etc.

Other good-to-knows

The exterior at night

Cahercastle is a handy 25-minute drive from Galway City, which means you can head for a ramble in the city in the morning, and be back at the castle for lunch without being wedged in a car for too long.

Here’s what the host has to say:

‘What to expect: lots of winding staircases, a castle that has been lovingly restored, but there are some cobwebs, and it gives you the real Irish castle experience. It’s not pristine, its not perfect, but it’s a real castle. There are lots of sheep and cows in the nearby fields – but lots of peace and quiet. This is a very unique place to stay. There’s nothing like it around, where you can say that you stayed in an actual castle. It’s not a tourist attraction (like Blarney Castle) and it’s not pristine like a hotel, but you’ll have a great time visiting.’

And, as I mentioned earlier, there’s a ridiculous amount of great reviews, so you can be guaranteed a decent stay.

How much a night here will set you back

A gloomy shot of the exterior

So, there’s a good bit of availability for this place over the summer months. I popped in a Saturday night in July for 4 people and the price worked out at:

  • Total cost: €293
  • Per person: €73.25
