You + 4 Friends Can Stay In This Gorgeous Gaff In Carlingford for €62 P/P Per Night

I haven’t seen this house in Carlingford for about a year and a half.

Then, yesterday evening, it popped up in a Whatsapp group after a friend copped it being advertised online.

A group of us spent a weekend in this deadly little gaff back in September of 2018, as part of a going-away weekend for a friend that was fluting off to Canada.

Anyway, I’m rambling here – this is a cracking place to spend a few nights away with a group for a number of different reasons that you’ll discover below.

A spacious gaff in Carlingford with mighty views

view at night

You’ll find this place in Carlingford, a short spin from the village where it offers lovely views out over Carlingford Lough.

The cottage is tucked away off the main road and it’s a quiet, cosy base for exploring Carlingford and the surrounding area.

The interior of this place is the business – those that visit can expect a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of communal space and stylish furnishings and fittings.

A handy spot for groups

views for days

5 of us spent the weekend here comfortably. When we stayed, there was a fold-out couch (as far as I can remember), but the sleeping arrangements have changed a bit since then.

The current set-up is:

  • Bedroom 1: 1 queen bed
  • Bedroom 2: 2 single beds and 2 floor mattresses

The living room and kitchen area are big, spacious and bright and there’s also a nice big terrace area where, if the weather is good, you can chill and enjoy the view.

The pros and cons of staying here (based on our previous visit)

inside the gaff

So, there’s an absolute rake load of positives associated with staying here (basing this on when we stayed a few years back).

The biggest positive is the interior – this place is finely decked out with everything you’ll need for a weekend away with a group.

There’s a lovely big communal area where you can kick back with a few beers/glasses of wine/cups of coffee and there’s enough sleeping space to comfortably suit a group of 5.

The place was spotlessly clean, there were robes to flake out in and the views from the various different rooms were mighty!

The only negative

The only negative that we experienced was the distance from the town – although it’s only a 2-minute drive away, you can’t walk into the town from the cottage.

We also found it impossible to get a taxi from the cottage into the town in the evening. We had to drive to the town, leave the car there for the night, and then wait for a good while to get a taxi home then later in the evening.

We then collected the car the following morning. If there’s a group of you with a few people driving, this shouldn’t cause you too much hassle!

How much a night will set you back

the view from outside

So, I whacked in a weekend in August (available at the time of writing) into Airbnb for 5 people sharing. Here’s how it worked out:

  • Total: €622
  • Per person: €124
  • Per person per night: €62
