If you’ve never stayed in one of the many dog friendly hotels in Kerry, and if you’re travelling with your pooch for the first time, there’s some very important need to knows:

• Always read the Ts&Cs in advance: some hotels charge extortionate prices to bring your pet and others have some unusual requirements that must be adhered by
• Always ring the hotel in advance to have a quick chat about what’s involved in bringing your dog
• Always read reviews in advance: a good way to find reviews from those that have brought their pets is to go to the TripAdvisor page for the hotel and filter the reviews (search ‘dog’ or ‘pet’)

1. Dromhall Hotel

From Red Setters to Pugs, Dromhall Hotel welcomes all dogs, big and small, with the same enthusiastic reception they greet their owners.

I’d never seen staff work so hard to make their guests feel welcome. The location is terrific. It’s only a 10-minute walk from the town centre and a 3-minute walk to Killarney National Park where you can visit Ross Castle, Torc Waterfall, and Muckross House.

With an energetic dog in tow, it’s great when you can give them all this exercise without having to use the car every time.

2. Randles Hotel

Randles is arguably one of the most historic dog friendly hotels in Kerry! I love a bit of history and especially love old houses that have been restored rather than renovated.

The building housing Randles Hotel has been around since 1906 and has kept much of its character throughout the modernisation.

The Hotel’s loveliness makes it more surprising that they’re pet-friendly, as are many of the surrounding restaurants. However, you’d need to visit on a fine day as you will have to dine in the outdoor areas.

Fair enough, food hygiene and all that. Seeing other guests with their dogs at the Hotel made us feel relaxed about bringing our rather large boy, as we’d been a bit worried that we’d get funny looks. Not at all. And with a room at the end of a hallway, it was perfect for us.

3. Brook Lodge Boutique Hotel

If you’ve read our guide to the best hotels in Killarney, you’ll recognise the Brook Lodge. If your pooch is pampered, this is where you need to stay.

Dogs are treated like royalty, with a goodie bag awaiting their arrival, and if you have more than one dog, that’s no problem either. You’re only a few minutes’ walk away from the town centre, but the hotel is situated down a quiet street with a lovely 1-acre garden to give your best boy or girl a breather.

There’s on-site parking, and when you bring your dog, you have a room with direct access to the garden. Add in the friendly and efficient staff, character-filled rooms, and the many choices on the breakfast menu, and you’re all set for a wonderful break in Killarney.

4. Towers Hotel Glenbeigh

You won’t be surprised if you see a dog or two belonging to the owners wandering around this Hotel in lovely Glenbeigh Village because this Hotel is truly pet-friendly.

Garden rooms are perfect for those middle of the night calls of nature, and there’s an outdoor dining area so you can keep your dog under your watchful eye.

Suppose you want the convenience of the hotel combined with the independence of an apartment? In that case, you can choose the apartment room with its own kitchenette and seating area.

The overall feeling is one of friendliness and comfort, a real home away from home.

5. Sneem Hotel (one of our favourite pet friendly hotels in Kerry)

Although the Sneem Hotel is up there with the best hotels in Kerry, it’s onr of the lesser-know dog friendly hotels in Kerry, and they welcome all sizes and breeds, for zero fee, once they’re well behaved.

Now, it’s worth noting the the pet friendly accommodation isn’t actually in the hotel itself – it’s the self-catering accommodation (Golden’s Cove).

Although you can bring your pet free of charge, you’ll be billed if there’s any damage done to the room, which is more than fair.

6. Eviston House Hotel

Live music every night, Danny Mann’s Pub on site, great food from The Colleen Bawn Restaurant; if you want to be in the heart of the action, the Eviston House Hotel is the place to be.

Your dog will feel like a King (or Queen) in the enormous open wardrobe where they’ll sleep, and a lovely spa bath will help you relax and get rid of the aches after a day spent hiking around Killarney’s beauty spots.

Free overnight parking is a definite plus in this busy location, and there are plenty of dog-friendly cafes and restaurants with outdoor dining options.

1. Dunloe Hotel & Gardens

If you’re looking for luxury for both you and your pet, you can’t pass the Dunloe Hotel and Gardens. The staff are wonderfully friendly, the food is scrumptious, and the rooms are beautiful.

And then, there’s the dog-friendly aspect. Your pet will get treats on arrival, they can stay in a (pre-booked) kennel while you go for a drink, and I love that the Hotel accepts that sometimes dogs sleep on sofas!

They provide a blanket to cover said sofa, so you have no guilt about dog hairs. There are 20 acres to explore and an enclosed run where the dogs can be off lead. 

The Dunloe is arguably the fanciest of the many dog friendly hotels in Kerry. A fine spot if you have cash to splash!

2. Killarney Fairview

Situated in the heart of Killarney Town, The Killarney Fairview ticks all our boxes. I love that everything is practically on the doorstep; restaurants, pubs, and all the walks; so necessary when you’re travelling with a dog.

The staff is super friendly and helpful; a couple going to a wedding were worried about leaving their dog, a staff member offered to walk it during the afternoon.

That’s service! So long as it’s not raining, you can have your dog join you on the Terrace for breakfast.

Maybe don’t feed him/her beforehand because there’s usually bacon on offer. Speaking of breakfast, the choices are incredibly fresh, local, and tasty.

3. Park Place Apartments

These apartments have dog-loving owners, so it’s not surprising that the mixture of 1 and 2 bed apartments and townhouses is pet-friendly.

The dogs have access to a courtyard at the front, and there’s a small private area at the back. Underground parking is a massive plus in Killarney, where parking is at a premium.

The location in the centre of town is perfect for sightseeing and shopping, and those all-important walks.

4. Cleo Gallery Apartments

Quirky, charming, comfy, and an art gallery, all the things I love whether I’m home or away.

Add in the privacy and independence of a centrally located, pet-friendly, apartment and thank you very much; I’m happy! The kitchen is well stocked, the décor is shabby chic, and the outdoor space is just lovely.

Kenmare is an excellent location from which to explore, and Gleninchaquin Park is only 19km away.

5. Tigh Cladach

Accessed by a typical country road (narrow!), this gorgeous little gem sits on a hill overlooking Dingle Bay, with Kells Lough in the background.

The 3 bedrooms sleep 5 guests, and there are bbq facilities so you can kick back on the patio with views of the ocean and adjacent mountains.

Kells beach and fishing village is only 1km away and will provide many hours of exercise and investigation for the hound. 

Cahersiveen is 20km and is where you can get any shopping you need. For an utterly peaceful, relaxing holiday I don’t think you could better it.

6. Allaghee Mor St Finians Bay

St Finian’s Bay in Ballinskelligs is home to the mighty Skellig Michael and the Lemon Rock and is less than 3km from Kildreelig Artist Village, an artist’s retreat which, since its inception in 1995, has attracted more than 4,500 artists from all over the world.

The cottage, sleeping 6, has sweeping views of the ocean, which can be enjoyed whatever the weather, from the conservatory’s expansive windows.

The high ceilings give an incredible feeling of spaciousness, so even if you’re all together, you don’t feel crowded. There are loads of coastal walks and rock pools for your dog to enjoy.
