Located on Achill Sound just 50m from the sea, these four star luxury cottages have every home comfort from the fully equipped modern kitchen to the cosy turf fire in the sitting room.

Three bedrooms (one downstairs) sleep 6-7 guests and there’s a , private garden and off-road parking. Free Wi-Fi allows you to stay in touch with family and friends by posting photos and letting them know what they’re missing!

Pure Magic is a lively lodge in Slievemore with themed bedrooms showcasing international destinations. Ideal for outdoor adventurers, the lodge specialises in kitesurfing and watersports from the onsite activity centre which has qualified instructors.

After a busy day on the water, tuck into a delicious home-cooked meal in the restaurant or relax on the hammock enjoying stunning lake and beach vistas. And did we mention the location is Pure Magic?

The next section of our guide tackles the best hotels in Achill Island. Now, as is the case with many islands in Ireland, there aren’t many hotels in Achill.

However, the ones that are there (there’s 3) are pretty damn good. Below, you’ll find the Strand, the Cliff House and one of the better-know hotels in Achill – Óstán Oileán Acla.

1. The Strand Hotel

Located right on Dugort Strand, this mid-range hotel has an unrivalled location close to the beach with free parking.

It includes a bar and restaurant as well as providing room service and free Wi-Fi. Spacious bedrooms are all equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, flatscreen TV and ensuite bathrooms.

2. Achill Cliff House Hotel and Restaurant

Overlooking Tramore Beach, Achill Cliff House and it’s one of the better-known hotels in Mayo. This is a modern three star hotel in Keel with free parking and an onsite restaurant specialising in locally sourced produce.

Stunning views are a given from this beachfront hotel. Just a short walk away are more local bars and village amenities. After a day’s hiking, you’ll welcome the chance to relax in the sauna.

3. Óstán Oileán Acla

Another highly recommended three star hotel, the Óstán Oileán Acla is located in Achill Sound. It is well-located for exploring the whole island starting with Kildamhnait Castle just 200m away.

Generously sized rooms are comfortably furnished and many have waterfront views to wake up to. Highly rated by guests, the hotel has a tour desk, bar, restaurant, buffet breakfast and a guest lounge along with free Wi-Fi.

Hy Breasal is a neat dormer bungalow offering homely B&B and friendly service. This spacious Achill Sound property is surrounded by gardens and has three ensuite bedrooms including a family room, all with TVs.

There’s free parking and Wi-Fi. Shops and bars are in the nearby village. Bedrooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast is hard to beat. Vegans catered for too!

With excellent ratings, Achill Isle House is a modern detached property in Newtown, Keel. It has five beautiful guest rooms, some with sea views. Bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds.

Keel Beach is just 250 m away for enjoying a stroll before breakfast. There’s a choice of continental or cooked Irish breakfast served with attention to detail. Guests are welcome to relax in the lounge and beautiful garden.

3. Lakefield Gallery

The lovely Lakefield Gallery is another top-notch B&B with exceptional feedback. It has an art gallery on the property showcasing local artworks. Visitors love the peaceful location, garden, BBQ facilities and scenic views.

Two tastefully decorated double rooms boast private bathrooms with hairdryer and toiletries. A tasty breakfast is included in the price. The friendly hosts ensure a perfect stay in this outstanding location on the outskirts of Keel village.

Breakfasts are highly rated making this a top place to stay near Dugort. There’s a bar and restaurant in Valley, just 0.5 km away. This is a fine spot if you fancy doing the Croaghaun Cliffs hike.
