You + 9 Friends Can Rent This Kilkenny Castle For A Weekend For €288 Per Person

If you’ve visited the ‘Unique Irish Accommodation‘ section of this website, you’ll know that Ireland has its fair share of funky rentals.

From unusual Airbnbs and quirky treehouses to hobbit pods and boathouses by the sea, there’s a little bit of something to tickle every fancy.

Today, we’re tipping down to County Kilkenny to have a gander at a tower that’s the ideal destination for a large group looking for a couple of nights away.

A 16th-Century Castle in Kilkenny that sleeps 10

the exterior of the castle

This. Place. Looks. CLASS! If you’ve ever fancied staying in a castle in Kilkenny, now’s your chance.

This gorgeous 16th-century castle is a stone’s throw from the city (5-minute drive) and sleeps ten, which makes it the ideal destination for a group looking for a base for a few nights away.

The castle was lovingly restored over the course of 25 years (that’s a serious bit of dedication!) and looks absolutely top-notch inside and out.

Ideal for a group

This castle is well equipped for a large group, with plenty of communal areas for lounging around and chatting, and nice big areas for group meals.

The rooms here will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, and that’s testament to how meticulous the host has been with the decor and furnishings.

Expect ornate rugs, beautiful old dressing tables, drapes, wooden beams and gorgeous wooden floors.

Now, if you’re afraid of spiders, it’s worth noting that you may encounter your fair share here after the cleaning has been done.

I stayed in a different castle in Kilkenny a while back, and we woke up to a couple of earwigs roaming around our bed… not ideal!

How much a night will set you back

So, I popped in a Friday and Saturday night in September for a group of 10 to suss out the price. Here’s how much it works out at:

  • Total stay: €2,880
  • Total per person: €288
  • Total per person per night: €144
  • Book a night in this place here
  • If you use the link above we’ll make a tiny commission that goes towards the running of this website and you won’t pay anything extra (cheers if you do – it’s appreciated!)

Other things to note

Hen and stag parties won’t be accepted, so you’ll have to find somewhere else to wear your mickey hats!

Also, going off of the reviews, the castle gets pretty damn cold… it’s a castle, after all! Make sure to pack warm clothing.

Castles in Ireland to Stay in

We published a guide to the best castles to spend a night in in Ireland a couple of weeks back.

In it, you’ll find castles that range from reasonably OK price-wise (around the €80 per night mark) to absolutely bananas €7,000+ per night jobs.
