You + 5 Friends Can Rent This Gorgeous Thatch For 2 Nights For €58 P/P

Since kicking off a series bringing you the most unique accommodation in Ireland, we’ve come across some incredible places to stay.

But few are as reasonable (and as cosy!) price wise as the stunning Nanny Murphy’s Cottage in Longford.

If you’re looking for somewhere quirky that’ll make a great base for a winter getaway with a few friends, this’ll be right up your street.

Below, you’ll find everything from photos and what to expect if you visit from how much a night will set you back. Dive on in!

Welcome to Nanny Murphy’s Cottage

Featured in the Irish Times, Independent and many sustainable building websites, Nanny Murphy’s is a truly unique cottage that celebrates everything that’s great about traditional Irish culture, heritage and passionate craftsmanship.

This quiet and cosy cottage boasts many authentic features, like cob walls, a beautiful open fireplace and exposed beams, all of which transport you back to an Ireland that time has all but forgotten.

What it’s like inside

While the exterior and interior look like something from 70 years previous, the cottage includes many modern conveniences for comfort.

Balls to the modern stuff. Image sitting in that rocking chair next to the fire with a book and a glass of whiskey on a cold winters evening. A little bit of magic.

The cottage has three bedrooms and can accommodate up to six guests, making it perfect for a group looking for a unique Airbnb in Ireland to spend some time. They also look insanely comfy.

How the host describes it

‘Authentically furnished with pretty patterns and traditional textures, the cottage has three bedrooms and can accommodate up to five people. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom cosy with a large shower.

The main living area is true to traditional form: stove fireplace, drop-leaf sliding dining table (to create space for Irish dancing and singing), timber mezzanine walkway, Irish trinkets on shelves, exposed beams, curved cob ceilings, cute sash windows and the famous Bodhrán (Irish musical drum).

All this, with the sensitive introduction of modern conveniences to ensure a comfortable, safe, enjoyable stay. With links to the Irish Department for Culture and Heritage, it’s the only rentable thatched cottage in the whole of County Longford!’
