A gloomy cloud hangs over the world of sport today as it bids a final farewell to one of the greatest sporting legends ever to grace this earth.

On June 3rd, Muhammad Ali passed away from a respiratory illness, a condition that was further complicated by Parkinson’s disease.

A hugely talented sportsman, Ali won 56 of his 61 fights, 37 of these by knockout.

Muhammad Ali in Ireland

Back in 1972 Muhammad Ali visited Ireland to fight against Al ‘Blue’ Lewis in Croke Park stadium, Dublin.

The video, which you can watch by hitting play above, is narrated by Ali as he describes his time in Ireland.

In his later years he visited Ireland twice more; once in 2003 when he attended the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics and then again in 2009 when he visited Ennis in County Clare, the birthplace of his great-grandfather, Abe Grady.

May he rest in peace.
