A Guide to the Best Places to go Camping in Wexford

There are some mighty places to go camping in Wexford.

Although there’s plenty to see and do in Wexford, many tend to overlook it for a weekend away.

And it’s there loss! There’s endless things to see and do in Wexford, from hikes and walks to beaches, family activities and more.

Below, you’ll find some of our favourites, from coastal campsites to inland havens.

1. Duncannon Beach Holiday Park

Duncannon Holiday Park is a family-run business in a stunning beachside location. The site overlooks the Waterford Estuary on the scenic Hook Peninsula.

Duncannon village with its shops, cafes, art galleries and historic fort are nearby. Duncannon Beach Holiday Park offers caravan and camping set-ups, glamping cabins, a self-catering cottage and mobile homes available for rent.

The mile-long beach has golden sand and the sheltered cove is ideal for canoeing, windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling and scuba diving. You can also go fishing, swimming or just chill out on your deckchair. 

2. Morriscastle Strand Holiday Park

Head to the coast for a fun camping holiday at Morriscastle Strand Holiday Park! Tucked away in the dunes at Morriscastle Beach, the holiday park is a short stroll from sand and sea.

The beach offers miles of sand and Blue Flag waters for swimming, paddling and watersports. Bring you own caravan and set up, or rent one of the cosy pods – they are more spacious than they sound.

They include a bunk-style double bed with single bunk above and a double sofa bed. Ideal for up to 5 guests, they have a full bathroom, well-equipped kitchenette and furnished deck.

Well maintained and boasting great reviews, Roches Campervan and Campsite at Clonmines overlooks the sheltered waters of the Bannow estuary and bay.

There’s an onsite shower and toilet block, internet, charging facilities and chemical disposal. The well-located camping site is an easy drive from Rosslare Ferry Port.

It offers direct access to the bay and excellent fishing for flat and bass. Where better to enjoy scenic coastal walks with several sandy beaches nearby.

There’s a pony trekking centre, local castles, supermarkets and pubs with trad Irish music sessions. Close to Tintern Abbey, it all adds up to a great stay. 

4. IOAC – Camping & Outdoor Adventure Centre

Get set for some serious outdoor fun at the International Outdoor Adventure Camp.

There’s never a dull moment as visitors tackle a full range of sports including battlezone archery, kayaking, high ropes courses, raft building and a series of team pursuits.

Take the ultimate Viking Challenge or see what you can do with stacked crates and wooden beams.

Kids can sign up for Easter and Summer Camps but the whole family can join in when they camp, bring a caravan, campervan or book a cosy glamping cabin. It’s a very affordable fun holiday for all ages. 

5. St Margaret’s Beach Camping and Caravan Park

Just 500m from beautiful Carne Beach, St Margaret’s Beach Camping and Caravan Park is a peaceful family-run site. It offers 27 flat caravan berths and camping pitches in a rural setting.

The beach offers long walks on the firm sand, boat trips from the harbour, sandcastles and safe blue flag waters for swimming and paddling.

It makes a good base for exploring local sites of interest including Kilmore Quay and Our Lady’s Island. All this just 15 minutes from Rosslare Euro Port for visitors.  

6. Kilmore Quay Holiday Park

Kilmore Quay Holiday Park is a newly opened 8 acre site in the heart of Kilmore Quay. It has 32 fully serviced sites for campervans and caravans close to the beach.

The excellent onsite facilities include showers, electric hook-up, laundry and TV room so even on a rainy day kids have somewhere to hang out. There’s loads to do once you’ve settled in and unpacked.

The beach and dunes are a short walk away. The nearby fishing port at Kilmore Quay offers fishing charters and trips to the Saltee Islands. Hook Head, Johnstowne Castle, the Dunbrody Famine Ship and the JFK Arboretum have something for everyone.

7. Wild Camping in Wexford

If you want to hit the open road and enjoy camping without booking ahead, wild camping might appeal. The term “wild camping” refers to pitching your tent (or caravan/motorhome) in a place that is not a designated campsite.

Wild camping is permitted in many places across Ireland including some beaches and national parks. 

However, wild camping is just that. There are no facilities so you need to be totally self-sufficient. Some great spots for wild camping include the Knockmealdown Mountains with dramatic views.

Before you pitch your tent, remember that if you want to camp on private land, you need to get the owner’s permission first.

Avoid any areas with livestock, the maximum stay in two nights to allow the grass to recover and there should be no traces of your stay. 

8. Carne Beach Caravan and Camping Park

Pop down to the sunny southeast corner of Ireland and enjoy a beach holiday at Carne Beach Caravan and Camping Park.

Steps from the beautiful sandy beach, the camping site is well catered for with an onsite chippie, cafe, launderette, showers, tennis and a play room.

The nearby sheltered harbour offers boating and fishing trips. After dark, the Lighthouse Lounge has a great atmosphere for a pint, live music entertainment and meeting new friends.   

9. Ocean Island Caravan Park

You will also feel like a castaway when you stay at Ocean Island Caravan Park. It is located at Fethard-on-Sea, New Ross in Co. Wexford, Enviably situated on the Hook Peninsula, this mobile home park welcomes caravans and campers to this sheltered site.

Amenities include a playground for youngsters and a games room with pool tables, TV and table tennis. Locals pubs in the village offer regular music and entertainment.

Owners have over 30 years experience and the site gets many returning visitors. It is fully approved by the Irish Tourist Board and recommended by the Irish Caravan Council, Caravan and Camping Club of Great Britain and the AA.

10. The Trading Post Service Station and Camping Park

The Trading Post Service Station and Camping Park welcomes caravans, tents and motorhomes of all sizes to their site. This four star camping site is just 15 minutes from Wexford Town.

It has electrical points for your home-from-home, hot showers, TV room, laundry with ironing facilities and an onsite shop and petrol station. Guests have full use of Wi-Fi too.

Stunning sandy beaches nearby round off the benefits of this award-winning campsite. It received the Klein award for service, making it one of the top small campsites in Europe. 

11. Ferrybank Caravan & Camping Park

The Ferrybank Caravan & Camping Park offers excellent pitches for visitors which come with glowing feedback from past guests. Spotless toilet and shower facilities are regularly checked.

The site is especially attractive being close to Curracloe Beach and just a 5-minute walk into historic Wexford Town. Local pubs, cafes, restaurants and take-aways make self-catering very easy!
