I‘m a massive fan of shows that involve taking something that’s either in absolute bits or slightly dilapidated and transforming them into something amazing.
The fondness probably stems from hours spent as a kid watching Xzibit’s ‘Pimp My Ride’ show on MTV and has climaxed with shows like Dermot Bannon’s ‘Room to Improve’.
When I first saw the Airbnb below, I couldn’t help but think that it looked like something brewed up in the minds of the two lads mentioned above after a few pints in the local.
And I mean that in the best way possible.
Welcome to the ‘Lux Bus’
This is all kinds of quirky and fancy and it has enough great reviews to guarantee you a solid night away with friends.
It’s also ridiculously good value, but more on that later.
You’ll find the ‘Lux Bus’ nestled in the historic town of Cobh in Cork, a stone’s throw from an ample number of adventure opportunities.
It’s a handy 4-minute drive from Cobh town and there’s a shop and a pub a 7-minute stroll away along a country road.
About the ‘Lux Bus’
if you’ve ever dreamt of spending a night in a double decker bus, then this’ll be right up your street.
The ‘Lux Bus’ is a fully converted double decker bus that comes equipped with many a modern luxury, like:
- A decked out kitchen with a stove and coffee maker
- Beds with Egyptian cotton linen
- Televisions
- Electric heating
If you’re planning a weekend away with friends and fancy chilling somewhere very different, then this could be a handy option.
Not only is it unique, it’s also pretty damn reasonable price wise.
How much a night will set you back
This place is pretty damn popular. I could only find a midweek night in May to check the price for a group of two:
- Total cost: €115
- Per person: €57.50
- See more of it here
- Note: if you book a stay through one of the links above we’ll make a tiny commission that helps us keep this site going. You won’t pay extra, but we really do appreciate it.
What the host says
The shower is based upstairs so will be lower than normal. Each room has a TV and storage and there is Wifi through out but if you want some screen free time there is also a range of books and board games. We have a cosy stove on board as well as electric heating, but should the weather be nicer, there is a lovely outdoor area complete with table and chairs for your private use.’
Visitor Review
The ‘Lux Bus’ has a tonne of great reviews – here’s a couple in case you’re still on the fence:
‘My family stayed a night at the LuxBus not completely sure what to expect but hoping for a unique stay. We were so pleased to find not only a fun & different type of lodging but comfort with everything we could have wanted including comfortable beds, toys & books for our little one, a very well stocked kitchen and even wifi + netflix. Its very convenient for Cobh & Cork and all the surrounding area has to offer. To top off the experience, Laura was a wonderful host. If you find yourself in this part of Ireland make a booking and you won’t regret it!’
‘Laura was a great host! The LuxBus is such a unique place to stay. It has all the amenities you could want and has been done up to a very high standard. The beds were very comfortable too! The bus is in a great location, a 5 minute drive from Cobh and only about 20 minutes to Cork city. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants something a bit different in Cork! Thanks for everything Laura!’
