About

After spending years in soul-sapping office jobs, James finally took the plunge into full-time travel writing in 2020 and hasn’t looked back since.

Since then he’s covered destinations such as France, Spain, Tunisia, Slovenia, Colorado, Barbados and, of course, Ireland for publications across four different continents around the world.

Experience

James has been writing for over four years and in 2022 was nominated for the TravMedia Awards’ ‘Rising Star of the Year’ award (which he didn’t win, in an outrageous miscarriage of justice).

James has written for publications including Nat Geo Traveller, Condé Nast Traveller, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Times and BBC Travel, as well as contributing chapters for three Lonely Planet guidebooks.

He’s been to Ireland many times over the last ten years, most recently in the summer of 2022 on a jaunt to tackle some of the best walks in Glendalough!

Favourite places in Ireland

Taking in the coastal views from the charming village of Ballycotton in Cork is one of James’s favourite Ireland memories.

However, he’s just as happy sat in Dublin’s Long Hall with a pint of Guinness and a dram of Redbreast 12.

His most popular guides

James has penned some of the most popular guides on The Irish Road Trip. Here are some of his most read articles:
