A wise man once said, “Pizza pizza, fill up your face, the thicker the pastry, the better the base!”… OK, I’m not sure where I was going with that.

Where to nab the best pizza in Galway in 2023
The first section of our guide is packed with where we think does the best pizza in Galway City.
Below, you’ll find a mix of very popular spots along with one of the most overlooked Galway pizza spots.
1. The Dough Bros
Voted the best pizzeria in Ireland, and the best takeout pizzeria in Europe, Dough Bros are widely considered to do the best pizza in Galway City.
With amazingly fresh ingredients, their wood-fired pizzas are made to order right in front of you as you wait. Expert pizza chefs knead and spin the dough as you sip one of their very own craft beers at the bar.
The restaurant is laid back with a fantastic atmosphere, full of quirky decor and walls adorned with awards and in-house photos.
Meanwhile, the pizzas themselves are simply sumptuous, made using traditional Neapolitan techniques and garnished with a huge array of toppings.
Of course, you’ll find some great sides, like cheesy garlic bread, as well as a host of refreshments, from wine and cocktails to craft beer and cider.
2. Woozza Wood Fired Pizza
Sitting in the centre of the city, Woozza is a lovely little Italian bistro that packs a big punch. The Italian chefs cook amazing, authentic thin-crust pizzas in a gorgeous wood-fired oven.
You can choose from a huge range of fresh toppings and the pizzas are nice and big. Don’t worry, though, they’ll happily do half and half if you want to share yours.
As well as pizza, they have gorgeous calzone, amazing sharing platters, and a range of tasty pasta dishes. And be sure to save a little space for dessert, a variety of gorgeous chocolate pizzas.
They’re also one of a few pizza restaurants in Galway that offer gluten-free, as well as vegan, pizzas, so there’s something for everyone.
A range of Italian beers and wines rounds off the menu. Inside, the space can easily accommodate large groups but can also be set up with several smaller tables instead.
3. Pizza & Pasta Napoli
While still boasting a city centre location, Pizza & Pasta Napoli is tucked away off the main road, providing something of a hidden gem. You’ll be glad that you discovered it as soon as you walk through the door, though.
This is a no-fuss Galway pizza spot, and while there is some seating inside, as well as a few outdoor tables, most folks enjoy getting takeaway from here.
In fact, a huge slice of amazing, authentic Napoli pizza and a drink for less than five euros is the reason I can’t keep away.
It’s perfect if you’re on the go, but you can also grab a whole pizza and eat in or stay outside on a fine day. Either way, you’ll enjoy great service from an amazing team.
4. OSTERIA da Simone
Sleek and sophisticated, da Simone is a top spot if you’re looking to impress. But it’s far more than just a pretty face. Italian glamour meets Irish hospitality to provide a superb atmosphere for a great meal out.
The team will make you feel at home from the get-go making for an amazing experience before you’ve even tasted anything. The pizzas are mouth-wateringly good, cooked to perfection for that winning crispy base and hot, gooey topping combo.
You’ll find a wide range of toppings to choose from, as well as sharing platters, garlic bread, and much more. If you don’t fancy pizza, there are plenty of other Italian alternatives.
Save space for the amazing dessert menu, boasting gorgeous delicacies such as chocolate tiramisu and cheesecakes. All washed down with a glass of something from their extensive wine menu or a local beer.

Zappi’s is a cosy Italian eatery with a focus on using the finest Irish ingredients. The Italian Irish twist results in some superb dishes and out-of-this-world pizzas.
Reasonably priced, it’s a top spot for an easygoing lunch or a family dinner. You’ll find something for everyone as you peruse the menu, though I’m a sucker for their seafood pizza.
Make sure you’re hungry when you arrive, as you’ll want to fit in three courses at least! The starters and sides are out of this world, with a tasty house-sharing platter and gooey cheesy garlic bread.
Meanwhile, the desserts include homemade brownies and gorgeous gelato.
The well-stocked wine cellar will keep thirst at bay, or check out their curious beer selection, with styles from around the world, as well as their own IPA.

O’Connell’s Bar in the centre of Galway is one of the best pubs in the city. So, what’s it doing on a list of great places for pizza? Well, when you see the pub from the street, you can be forgiven for thinking it’s pretty small.
But walk inside, and enter the beer garden, and you’ll see that what were once a number of different shops around a courtyard are now all part of the pub.
Each section offers something different, with a stunning look back through time in each parlour. One of the shops is home to a gorgeous wood-fired pizza oven, and in partnering up with Dough Bros, O’Connell’s Bar serves up fantastic, fresh pizzas boasting all local ingredients.
The small but perfectly curated pizza menu is ideal for enjoying with a pint of local beer, a glass of wine, or even a cocktail. Laidback and friendly, you might even catch some live music!
O’Connell’s does some of the best pizza in Galway, and throw in the fact that it’s a mighty place for a pint with pals, too, and you’re onto a winner.

And like any great Italian joint, Mona Lisa excels in delivering top-notch meals time after time. The pizzas are traditionally made and utilise the finest local ingredients, resulting in a mouth-watering experience.
You’ll also find a host of other authentic Italian dishes on the menu and to wash it all down, they boast a selection of Italian wines and beers. Just don’t forget to leave room for the tiramisu!
