A locals guide

I‘ve been asked to write a Galway Bed and Breakfast (B&B) guide by a handful of people over the years, but for one reason or another, never got around to it.

If you’re looking for a Galway B&B guide that ONLY contains excellent B&Bs that you’ll love, you found it.

If you read our guide to the best things to do in Galway, you’ll know that I visit this county a fair bit (3 – 4 times per year).

I’ve stayed in many different Galway B&Bs over the years, and I’ve a load of family and friends that have stayed in others. I’ve put mine (and their) favourites into the guide below.

best b&b Galway has to offer

OK, before we get into the main guide, I want to call out one particular Galway B&B, as it’s ridiculously good. The best B&B Galway has to offer, in my opinion, can be found a little outside Galway City, in Salthill, where it overlooks the beautiful Galway Bay.

Welcome to the Sea Breeze Lodge B&B in Galway. This swanky bed and breakfast offers guests all of the luxuries that you come to expect from a luxury B&B or hotel, like a full-size bath, a rainfall shower, mood lighting, in-room entertainment and more.

Interestingly enough, the Sea Breeze Lodge was the first bed and breakfast in Galway to be granted a coveted International 5-Star award in 2017 and 2018.

I know a handful of people who have stayed here recently, and each person has ranted and raved about the place. A quick look through the reviews online also speaks volumes. review: 9.5 Exceptional based on 172 reviews. Check prices here.

1. Atlantic Lodge Bed and Breakfast Galway

B&B in Galway

The first place on our list is a litt outside of Galway City (9-minute drive and a good hour walk). This will put some people off, but if you have a car/are happy to grab a taxi, you’ll be fine.

Atlantic Lodge has racked up a tonne of great reviews online, with many guests making reference to cleanliness and service. Visitors have access to a shared lounge, a garden and free WiFi, all of which are pretty standard for a B&B.

If you plan on staying here, try and grab one of the 2nd story rooms. These come with a balcony that overlooks Galway Bay. review: 9.1 Superb based on 392 reviews. Check prices here.

2. The Stop B&B Galway

The Stop is a solid option for those of you looking for a reasonably central B&B that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg.

This spot is a handy 10-minute walk from the centre of Galway and just half a kilometre from the coast, so you’ve the best of both worlds location wise.

This B&B dates back to 1930s and offers stylish rooms with a contemporary feel throughout. Expect all the usual amenities like WiFi, etc. Visitors can expect a tasty breakfast each morning made from locally sourced produce. review: 93 Superb based on 635 reviews. Check prices here.

3. The Eyre Square Townhouse (great Galway Bed and Breakfast for exploring the city)

Eyre Square bed and breakfast

You’ll find the Eyre Square Townhouse at the heart of Galway City in, unsurprisingly enough, Eyre Square.

This Galway Bed and Breakfast boasts 10 uniquely decorated bedrooms with state of the art facilities.

The beauty of this B&B is its location – if you spend the night here you’ll be a stone’s throw from many of the best pubs in Galway along with plenty of shops, restaurants, and much more. review: 8.5 Very Good based on 1,181 reviews. Check prices here.

4. Rusheen Bay House

Rusheen Bay House is another B&B in Galway that’s based in Salthill. If you’re worried about staying outside of Galway City, don’t be – it takes 5-7 minutes max to get from the city to Salthill by car or taxi.

This spot also overlooks the magnificent Galway Bay and is a handy 5-minute walk to the nearby Galway Golf Club.

If you’re looking for a charming Galway Bed and Breakfast that ticks all of the boxes, get yourself here for a night or two. review: 8.7 Fabulous based on 486 reviews. Check prices here.

5. St. Judes Lodge B&B

Our next B&B, St. Judes Lodge, has over 1,000 reviews on with an average score of 9.0, Superb. Not bad at all.

This place is nice and central, with the walk from the front door to Eyre Square taking a leisurely 10 minutes.

Visitors here can expect big clean rooms, a great location and friendly service that’ll make you want to return time and time again. review: 9.0 Superb based on 1,115 reviews. Check prices here.

6. Ash Grove House

Our final Galway B&B is Ash Grove House. To be honest, I’d nearly visit here to give the breakfast a crack.

There are homemade pancakes, Galway Bay smoked salmon, and fresh fruit on offer each morning along with a hearty, traditional Irish breakfast.

You’ll find this place in a quiet residential location, less than a 10-minutes walk from the beautiful Galway Cathedral and only 5 minutes from NUI Galway. review: 9.1 Superb based on 881 reviews. Check prices here.
