7 of The Best Hotels in Clifden in 2026

7 of The Best Hotels in Clifden in 2026

Clifden is the most practical base in Connemara. It’s the largest town in the area, which means you get choice – there are great pubs, restaurants and hotels in Clifden to choose from!

From the town, you’re minutes from the Sky Road, a short spin from Connemara National Park and the Twelve Bens, and well placed for Ballyconneely, Roundstone, Derrygimlagh Bog and more.

As is the case with any tourist town in Ireland, there are a wide range of hotels in Clifden, with something to suit most budgets.

Now, before we dive on in, I just want to clarify that the guide below is in no particular order, with the exception of spot one, two and three.

1. Abbeyglen Castle Hotel

Abbeyglen Castle sits on a hill just outside Clifden, with views over the town and out towards the Atlantic.

Built in 1832, it’s one of the most distinctive places to stay in Connemara – not because it’s polished or modern, but because it fully leans into what it is.

Rooms are traditional and deliberately cosy, with four-posters, heavy fabrics and a lived-in castle feel rather than sleek luxury.

The atmosphere is social and traditional, centred around open fires, evening storytelling, live piano music and a sense that the night is part of the stay, not something you head out to escape.

I’ve stayed here in the past and I really enjoyed using it as a base to explore the many things to do in Clifden.

2. Clifden Station House Hotel

The Station House is one of the best hotels in Clifden for families, thanks to the sheer range of on-site facilities and the amount of space it offers.

There’s an indoor swimming pool, spa and leisure centre, a large restaurant and bar, and even a full theatre that runs a kids’ cinema during school holidays, which makes a big difference if the weather closes in.

Rooms are modern and comfortable, with family rooms and self-catering apartments giving added flexibility for longer stays.

The location also works in its favour – it’s a short, flat walk into town, so you can park the car and explore on foot, while still having easy access to Connemara’s beaches, drives and walking routes.

3. The Central House Hotel

The Central House is a small, modern boutique stay right in the middle of Clifden, with everything in town within a few minutes’ walk.

With just 12 rooms, it feels contained and calm despite the central location, making it a good fit if you want convenience without the bustle of a large hotel.

Rooms are finished in a clean, contemporary style, with an emphasis on comfort and simplicity rather than excess.

Options range from compact doubles to king rooms and a ground-floor family room that sleeps up to five.

There’s no on-site dining, but you’re a short stroll away from Clifden’s many restaurants.

4. The Woodfield Hotel

The Woodfield is a centrally located hotel on Market Street, right in the heart of Clifden, with views out towards Clifden Bay and the Atlantic beyond.

This is one of the newest hotels in Clifden, having only opened in 2021, and it feels modern and straightforward rather than ornate.

Rooms are bright, spacious and practical, with en-suite bathrooms and a mix of doubles and family-friendly layouts.

Downstairs, the bar and restaurant are a key part of the experience, serving food throughout the day, with terrace seating that makes the most of the bay views when the weather plays along.

4. Foyles Hotel Clifden

Foyle’s is Clifden’s longest-established hotel, sitting right on Main Street and firmly woven into the life of the town.

Family-run for close to a century, it feels traditional without being tired, offering a dependable, central base for your Connemara road trip.

The building has been modernised in recent years, but it still carries a classic hotel layout and atmosphere.

Rooms are comfortable and unfussy rather than showy, and the focus here is on ease and reliability. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are well used, both by guests and locals, which adds to the lived-in feel.

6. Ardagh Hotel & Restaurant

The Ardagh sits on the edge of Ardbear Bay, just outside Clifden, with uninterrupted views across sea and land that change constantly with the weather.

It feels deliberately removed from town without being remote – close enough to dip in and out of Clifden, far enough to properly switch off.

This is a small, family-run hotel with a strong sense of identity. Rooms are individually styled and quietly luxurious, with large windows, quality beds and a calm, unfussy finish.

The pace here is slower and more intentional, shaped around fireside evenings, long meals and time spent outdoors rather than ticking off sights.

Food is central to the experience. The restaurant focuses on local seafood and produce, much of it grown on the hotel’s own grounds, and meals tend to anchor the day rather than bookend it.

7. Alcock & Brown Hotel

The Alcock & Brown sits right on Market Square, putting you in the thick of Clifden town with pubs, restaurants, cafés and shops just outside the door.

If you want to step straight into the evening atmosphere without worrying about taxis or late walks back, the location is hard to beat.

The hotel is family run and recently refurbished, with bedrooms and bathrooms updated to a clean, modern standard.

Rooms are comfortable and practical rather than styled for effect, with everything you’d expect for a short stay or touring base.

This is a straightforward town-centre hotel that prioritises ease and location over indulgence.
