Described by Oscar-winning Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw as “An incredible, impossible, mad place”, the Skellig Islands, have experienced their fair share of attention over the last year.
The larger of the two islands, Skellig Michael, shot to fame in 2015 when it made its Hollywood debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Although their appearance in a movie that shattered countless records is guaranteed to see visitor numbers soar, filming on the island was tarred with controversy.
According to reports, a number of “incidents” that took place during the recording resulted in repairs to the island being required.
