Before looking at the recommended hotels in Westport below, it’s important to decide whether or not staying outside of the town centre is a dealbreaker for you.
When it comes to accommodation in Westport, you have two options:
- Hotels in the town (for those that want to be able to walk to the town’s pubs and restaurants)
- Hotels outside of the town (for those who would rather avoid the hustle and bustle)
Personally, I always tend to stay in one of the hotels in Westport Town Centre (usually The Wyatt or The Mariner) but there are some outstanding options less than a 7-minute drive away, as you’ll see below.
The best hotels in Westport
The map above should give you a good sense of where the accommodation in Westport below can be found. As you can see, most of the places to stay in Westport are around the town, but several are very close by.
Note: if you book via one of the links below we’ll make a commission that helps us keep this site going. You won’t pay extra, but we really do appreciate it.
1. The Wyatt Hotel
The only reason that I ever stay anywhere other than The Wyatt is if there’s no availability as it tends to be good value, especially when you consider its location.
You’ll find it inside the town’s historic Octagon, a stone’s throw from many of the finest pubs and restaurants in Westport.
A great example of a very well maintained 3-star hotel, it boasts 90 rooms, 3 restaurants and a traditional pub (the Cobbler’s).
The rooms are clean, bright and well-appointed. It’s also one of the only hotels in Westport with dog friendly rooms (you have to ask pre-booking!).
2. Westport Plaza Hotel
Located away from the hustle-and-bustle of busy Bridge Street and yet still just a 4-minute walk away is the excellent Westport Plaza.
This is one of the stand-out 4-star hotels in Westport and it boasts a spa, a swimming pool and a gym.
Rooms at the Plaza range from superior to presidential and there are several family options, too.
For food, there’s the hotel’s Coveys Gastrobar – a NYC inspired bar and restaurant with modern and luxurious decor.
3. Westport Coast Hotel
If you’re looking for Westport hotels away from the lively town centre, the Coast Hotel is well worth considering.
It’s located at the Quay, a 5-minute drive or a 30-minute walk from the centre. What you’ll trade for proximity to ‘the action,’ you’ll gain in a waterside location with glorious views of Croagh Patrick.
Few Westport hotels boast a view like this one, and it can be enjoyed from the Harbour View rooms and the newly opened LuSeas Rooftop restaurant which has floor to ceiling views out towards Clew Bay.
Facility-wise, there’s an 18 meter indoor swimming pool, a children’s pool and a jacuzzi. This is one of the most popular places to stay in Westport for good reason!
4. Castlecourt Hotel
The Castlecourt Hotel is another great option for accommodation in Westport if a central location is a priority for you.
This is a 4-star hotel that’s located on Castlebar Street, a handy 5-minute walk over the river to Bridge Street (and just down from the entry point to the Westport Greenway!).
This is one of the best hotels in Westport when it comes to facilities, with a spa, a 20 metre pool, a gym, a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and kids pool on-site.
There’s also a bar (Petie Joes) and two restaurants (the newly refurbished Portos and May’s Bistro). There are several room types here, including junior suites, family rooms and four poster deluxe.
5. Knockranny House Hotel
You’ll find one of the top hotels in Mayo a 6-minute drive/15-minute walk from Westport Town centre – the 4-star Knockranny House Hotel.
Set on a hillside overlooking Westport, the hotel is close enough to the town to make use of its pubs and restaurants without any inconvenience, yet far enough away that you’ll feel a world apart from its busy streets.
There’s an awful lot to like about this place from the antique furnishings and the thermal suites to the pool and the exceptional service.
For dining, few Westport hotels can boast a setting like Knockranny’s La Fougère Restaurant, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
6. Clew Bay Hotel
The Clew Bay Hotel is another option located at the heart of the town, on James St (Blouser’s, one of the best pubs in Westport, is a 2-minute stroll away).
The hotel, established in 1963, boasts over 60 years of experience in hosting visitors to the town.
The rooms, which come in double, twin and river view, are big, bright and feel nice and cosy. There’s also also a pub and restaurant on-site.
Family-run, you can expect a warm welcome, a comfortable base to explore from and all of Westport’s attractions right at your doorstep.
7. Westport Country Lodge Hotel
Westport Country Lodge Hotel is set on 36 finely-manicured acres of countryside.
A stay here will suit those looking for a tranquil location and a quiet setting (there are only 21 rooms here).
Gazing out towards ‘The Reek’, the hotel has twin, family and single rooms along with a bar that dishes up hearty meals.
You get the best of both worlds here – a calm and scenic setting that’s a 10-minute drive from the action of the town centre.
8. The Mariner
The last spot in my guide to the best hotels in Westport is The Mariner, a place that I’ve stayed in several times over the last 18 months.
Now, accommodation in Westport can be both scarce and pricy come the summer months, but I found good deals at the Mariner twice last summer.
The rooms, while basic, are clean, bright and contain everything you’ll need while its Mill Street location couldn’t be more central.
