Spa hotels Donegal: Our favourite spots
The first section of this guide is packed with what we think are the best hotels with spas in Donegal, with everywhere from the Shandon to Lough Eske making an appearance.
Note: if you book a stay through one of the links below we may make a tiny commission that helps us keep this site going. You won’t pay extra, but we really do appreciate it.
1. Lough Eske Castle Hotel
The best spa hotel Donegal has to offer is, in our opinion, Lough Eske. This award-winning five-star resort is situated on the edge of the stunning Lough Eske just a short drive out of Donegal Town.
It requires a bit of a splurge, but a stay in one of their castle or garden suites is worth every penny. They are luxuriously decorated with a modern touch and offer plenty of fine amenities.
One of the real highlights of a stay at the Lough Eske Castle Hotel is the onsite spa. It’s housed in a sandstone building in the garden with a green and gold mosaic pool and spa.
You can easily unwind with their natural therapies, including facials and massages in one of their seven treatment rooms.
The fully equipped thermal suite offers the ultimate spa experience, which has an ice fountain, sauna, steam room, infinity pool and tropical experience showers.
2. Redcastle Spa Hotel Donegal
This is one of the most overlooked spa hotels in Donegal and there’s a reason it ranked high in our guide to the best spa hotels in Ireland. Perched on the shores of Lough Foyle on the Inishowen Peninsula, this hotel couldn’t be in a more scenic location.
Right outside of the town of Redcastle, this is the perfect setting for a relaxing and romantic weekend away. Their rooms are full of luxuries with ocean and parkland views from the windows.
The Redcastle Spa hotel in Donegal offers a range of relaxing treatments and facilities. You can choose from either the Sugar Room designed for the perfect girl’s weekend away or individual spa treatments and massages using organic Voya products.
There’s also the leisure centre with the pool, sauna and steam room. From as short as 30 minutes up to a full day of pampering, you can choose from a variety of treatments designed to leave you feeling completely rejuvenated.
3. The Shandon Hotel
This four-star luxury hotel and spa is widely considered one of the best hotels in Donegal, however, it’s one of the most overlooked spa hotels Donegal has to offer.
The Shandon’s stunning setting right on Sheephaven Bay offers a tranquil stay with incredible sea views. The hotel has a variety of rooms suitable for couples and families from standard rooms up to master suites.
It offers the perfect way to disconnect at their wonderfully stylish spa and beauty centre. They have a range of both hot and cool experiences with stunning views over the bay from the full height windows.
You can choose from heated loungers, foot spas, a sauna, salt grotto and lifestyle showers. The real highlight however is the Canadian hot tub outside, where you can lie back in the warm water and enjoy incredible views over the entire area.
4. Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa
A relaxing escape to Donegal’s beautiful Inishowen Peninsula is never a bad idea and Ballyliffin Lodge might just be the perfect place to stay in this part of the county.
Despite the vast array of activities and attractions nearby, you’ll definitely want to schedule some time to kick-back in this Donegal spa hotel (the spas called Rock Crystal Spa).
The spa at Ballyliffin Lodge is perfectly designed for the ultimate stress releasing and relaxing experience. With mood lighting, candle-lit corridors and only the best organic plant products from Voya, the day spa is incredibly enticing.
They have a wide range of treatments including facials, body wraps and massages, which are also available in special combined packages.
5. The Sandhouse Hotel and Marine Spa
Escape to the quiet Atlantic coast in Rossnowlagh at this four-star spa hotel in Donegal and soak up a relaxing break by the sea.
The Sandhouse is located right on the edge of the ocean near the golden sand of the Blue Flag beach at Rossnowlagh. They have a range of beautiful, spacious rooms, offering either sea or hill views from the windows and comfortable amenities.
After a morning walk on the beach, you’ll want to head to their Marine Spa inside the hotel. They offer a range of face and body treatments with the best organic Voya products and holistic practices.
You can opt for a relaxing experience with their body scrubs, bath soaks and mud wraps that will leave you feeling incredible. Or, try a beauty pampering session with manicures, pedicures, lash and brow treatments and hair removal on offer.
Other popular hotels with spas in Donegal
OK, now that we’ve got our favourites out of the way, it’s time to see what other spa hotels Donegal has to offer.
There are five more which have racked up rave reviews online and that are located in incredibly scenic corners of County Donegal.
1. Ballyliffin Townhouse
You’ll find our next hotel with a spa in Donegal in the seaside town of Ballyliffin. This is a 4 star property with a brand spanking new spa, called the Tess Rose Ocean Spa.
The interior of the townhouse is cosy and several of the rooms are bright, spacious and are elegantly decorated.
The spa here boasts a sunken jacuzzi, infrared saunas, foot baths, a river walk and Amazon themed showers where you can chill after a day spent exploring.
2. Inishowen Gateway
Although there’s plenty of hotels in Inishowen, one tends to reign supreme in the eyes of many – the Inishowen Gateway.
The hotel is home to the Seagrass Spa and Wellbeing Centre where you can avail of a variety of treatments, from their Seagrass Bliss to the Luxury Manicure.
There’s also a big leisure centre and, for the evenings, there’s the Lough View Bar that overlooks the golf course and the Peninsula Restaurant, too. There’s also pub grub on offer in the Lough View Bar.
4. Holyrood Hotel
You’ll find our next Donegal spa hotel in the lively seaside town of Bundoran, where you’re feet away from beaches, coastal walks and great surf.
This place is a great base to explore both Donegal and Sligo and it’s home to several restaurants, a big leisure centre and the Escape Beauty Spa.
There’s a mountain of treatments on offer here from body treatments and massages to men’s specials and mother-to-be-treatments, too.
5. Silver Tassie Hotel & Spa
Silver Tassie is a hugely popular (current review score on Google, at the time of typing, is 4.6/5 from 1,087 reviews) 4 star in Letterkenny that’s been run by the Blaney family for 2 generations.
The hotel has 36 rooms, a popular bar and restaurant and The Seascape Spa (it has his-and-her treatments, seaweed baths and more).
It’s a little bit out from the hustle and bustle of the town centre but close enough that you can nip in to its pubs and restaurants, if you like.
6. Villa Rose Hotel and Spa
Last but by no means least in our guide to the best spa hotels Donegal has to offer is the brilliant Villa Rose. The Villa Rose is a four-star family-run hotel and spa in Ballybofey offering the perfect countryside getaway.
They have beautiful rooms to relax in which has been decorated with soft fabrics and a vintage style. The hotel is perfectly set up for a romantic weekend away.
The onsite spa is an award-winning destination in itself that offers a range of pampering options and relaxing treatments.
They have seven treatment rooms, a couple’s treatment area, thermal suite, relaxation room and hair and make-up salon with over 70 individual treatments.

What are the best value spas in Donegal?
