First up is, in our opinion, the best of the many 5 star hotels in Kerry. Parknasilla Resort & Spa is the stuff holiday dreams are made of and typifies the word indulgence.

That the bedrooms are beautiful and the food is fabulous are a given; it’s the location and the amenities that take this hotel into the stratosphere of luxury.

Relax in an outdoor hot tub or swim off the pier and hop into the heated saltwater pool afterwards.

You can opt to stay in the hotel or in one of the lodges or houses on site. Play golf or tennis, go for a walk in the grounds or have drinks on the lawn overlooking the ocean. The choice is yours.

Muckross Park Hotel & Spa is a combination of man-made elegance surrounded by natural beauty. The hotel is renowned for its attentive staff and the quality of their care.

Being waited on hand and foot becomes the norm, and breakfast feels like an occasion. With 3 distinctive options for dining, The Yew Tree Restaurant, Monk’s Lounge and Colgan’s Gastro Pub, you can eat wherever suits your mood.

Situated as it is in Killarney National Park, there’s lots of lovely walks and bike rides, and you can see the red deer that have been in the park since Neolithic times (be careful in the autumn as the Stags can be quite active).

Travel for 14 minutes around the Ring of Kerry and you’ll arrive at the Dunloe Hotel & Gardens.

It overlooks the famous Gap of Dunloe and is designed so that guests can view the amazing mountains and surrounds from several vantage points.

One of the “Leading Hotels of the World”, the Killarney Park Hotel is just what it says on the tin and is the only 5-star hotel in Killarney Town (there are many great hotels in Killarney, though!).

The tone is set for your stay when you’re greeted in the car park by a concierge who will offer help with your luggage. Winter evenings present an open fire and complimentary mulled wine on arrival, while a summer’s day is the perfect time to dine in the garden.

Rooms are spacious and full of the 5-star extras you’d expect, and I know we all get our news from our devices these days, but I love receiving a complimentary newspaper when I’m on holiday.
